One-tree hill near Jambhulwadi

One-tree hill is a beautiful trail for mountain biking lovers in Pune. You don’t even have to go out of the city to do this trail.

You can start this trail from Narhe or Ambegaon village (near Pune-Banglore highway). There is CCD just before the valley bridge on the new highway. It is good starting point. You can park your vehicle there safely and have a coffee when you are back. From this point at CCD you need to travel on the express way for couple of kilometers.

Start cycling from Valley Bridge of highway towards the new tunnels. This patch is an uphill climb disguised as a straight road J. Trust me it can wear you out.

Be aware of speedy vehicles on this road. Stay left and go slow. Avoid going on this path when it is dark. After cycling for 10-15 minutes you'll reach a point which is about 1KM before the tunnel. You can see couple of shelters built on left side along with a puncture repair stall. Right there you will see a big, steep mud road going uphill to your left. Take that path. There are barricades at the beginning of this path. I did not see anyone there, so I’m not sure if this is closed officially :-).

It’s a pretty good uphill climb for mountain biking that will make you sweat. It’s a lot of fun though.

This trail takes you directly above the tunnel. You can see the highway entering the tunnel from this road. After a steep climb there is straight mud road that takes you to the top of the plateau on right side. This is top of the one-tree hill. Tree is visible from a distance and it looks very beautiful. The entire plateau has only one banyan tree with coolest shade. Once you reach here, you’ll see a beautiful view of valley, mountain ranges and the Sinhagad fort.

There are many trails available here for biking enthusiasts. Once you reach atop you can go left and explore more trails. The road on left goes to Sinhagad (katraj-sinhgad trek), and also to the Khandoba temple peak which you can see on west side from here.

The big mountain behind you, that has a tunnel underneath is called ‘Zorala’ by locals. There is trail going uphill from an abandoned house which takes you on top of this hill. This is not for biking. You can still park your bicycle here and hike to top of this peak. There is small temple at peak of this hill.

If you are running out of water, don’t worry. There is a small fresh water spring on top. However, you may need to explore a bit to find it J

This is how I’ll choose to direct you to the water J:
1.       Start from banyan tree, go west towards the valley.
2.       Go left from the valley side.
3.       You’ll see small natural water pond in rocks.
This is really small, so all the best!
For return journey, ride the entire plateau toward city direction(north). There are beautiful trails for mountain biking here. Some are adventurous with steep valley around you.

At end of the plateau, you’ll reach an under construction circle shaped Jain temple. Take a road from here which goes downhill. Downhill track is good, without much adventure and goes straight in Jambhulwadi village.

From here you can take route which goes right under the highway bridge, then take left and you can reach the highway.

This trail has good elevation, so I recommend to use geared bike. This trail is not good for usual road bikes, so prefer MTB.
